Advent – Day 14

… and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.”

Today’s Advent reflection was about the season being stressful and bittersweet for many for many reasons and the challenge was to list three simple practices to relieve stress and focus on what really matters.

  1. Advent journaling – the purpose of the #adventword on social media is simply to share an image for each day that represents that word but I have found that writing a little bit about each reflection in the Waiting and Watching book helps me focus a bit on the words (even if it does take me a day or two to get caught up once I get behind).
  2. Listening to Advent playlists – most of the songs on these playlists are hopeful, some are a bit mournful and even haunting, but all seem to calm and relax me.
  3. Being present at all times – this one is a constant struggle. I tend to look forward to the next thing or lament that time feels like it is passing too quickly. I have to constantly remind myself to be here now.
