In the days before, I would play in the dirt,

No obsession with cleanliness or fear of germs.

In the days before, I would create in the mud,

The hitch of a trailer both a mold and a place for my sculptures to dry.

In the days before, I would design tiny dams,

Using twigs and gravel to redirect rivers of water from the hose.

In the days before, the outdoors was my studio, my art was nature,

And my mind was free.
