Advent Word/Day 17

The Good Samaritan – Jacob Jordaens

“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” – Hebrews 13:2

I, like most people, have a healthy suspicion of strangers. Years of watching true crime documentaries have not served me well in this regard. However, I would like to think when I encounter a stranger, I am at the very least civil, if not friendly.

When we encounter a stranger, whether it is the cashier in a checkout line, a person you pass on the sidewalk, or the person on the street with a cardboard sign, we have no way of knowing their successes, their failures, their joys, or their sorrows. We do have a way to ensure that we positively impact their day rather than negatively do so. Be kind. Full stop. Not be kind if…. or be kind because…. Simply be kind.
