Advent Word/Day One

There are many many references to walking in the Christian faith. From hymns – “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” to poems – “Footprints in the Sand”- to scripture – “For we walk by faith and not sight.” We are told to walk with Jesus, that we never need to walk alone. But what about walking with others, literally and physically here and now? So often when I am out with others, I am either walking ahead, because I am in a hurry, or lagging behind, because I am distracted (or on my phone). Similarly in conversation and communication, I am thinking ahead of what I am going to say or a million miles away wondering about the next thing I need to do.

I often have to tall myself to slow down and to “be here now.” So today, as Advent begins, may we walk, talk, work, and be not only alongside others, but truly with them.
