Cruisin’

Last beach sunrise of the trip

Today was our last full day on the coast. Rain is forecast as we are leaving tomorrow so I made a point to get up in time to see the sunrise.

My card and gifts

I sat out on the balcony for a long while and then came back inside and read while everyone slept in….I eventually dozed back off on the couch. Mid-morning, Trever went to pick up Mother’s Day donuts and the girls gave me some gifts they picked up while we were out yesterday; Abby had also made me a creative and beautiful card.

Today’s activity was a Dolphin Cruise with Ship Island Excursions….Ship Island is a destination for those vacationing in the area but repairs are ongoing from store damage from last year. However, they offer sightseeing cruises which launch out of Gulfport, so we made reservations and headed to the harbor around noon.

The boat was getting full by the time we arrived so the best seats were taken; however, once the cruise was underway, the crew opened up the front of the boat for passengers so we moved up and had a front row seat. We spotted scores of seagulls, many pelicans, and several dolphins – although I didn’t get pictures of any – and it was a gorgeous day!

After the cruise, we rode down toward Biloxi before returning to Bay St. Louis. I spent the next couple of hours reading (which, despite my best intentions I haven’t done much of on this trip). For dinner we had planned to go to pick up po’ boys at Pirate’s Cove in Pass Christian but found they were closed on Sundays. So we ordered from a local restaurant and had sandwiches, gumbo, and leftovers from last night.

All in all, I would say that our first post pandemic, brief May Vacay was a success. Tomorrow will be a long day and a long drive but I am ready to get home and see my fur babies. ‘Til next time…
